Amazon Studios proves to be a contender
This film was a surprise hit for me personally. I had heard a lot of positive things online before going to see this movie. But you just never know with movies in this kind of genre.
I have to say though that this is probably the best romantic comedy I have ever seen.

That term "romantic comedy" has negative connotations to it, and rightly so. But at its core that's what this movie was. A lot of funny wrapped up in an original and out of the box love story. Kumail Nanijani who plays himself in the retelling of his own love story, does an amazing job from start to finish. He hits all the right notes with his comedic timing and awkwardly funny moments. While at the same time really shows his depths with the more serious and emotional parts.
To get a real insight into someones struggle fighting cultural traditions and stereotypes was truly eye opening. And I believe a lot can be learned from movies like this. A surprise standout to me in this was Ray Romano. Who normally I'm not a huge fan of, and yet he fully delivers in his role as the awkward father. So overall I would say if you're looking for a good date night movie or just a fan of solid comedies in general I highly recommend checking this out!
